Summary
Coming from a long line of mowers dating back over 50 years, the ZTR2454BS is another installment in Swisher’s premium line of riding mowers. It has been tweaked and refined to be one of their best models yet, and these improvements were easy to see during our testing. It handles like a sports car and mows grass at a level on par with some of the best industrial zero turn mowers around. It holds plenty of fuel to tackle even the biggest of yards in one go and that it does. With a wide cutting deck and hydrostatic transmission, the ZTR2454BS is a seriously convenient machine and makes mowing a pleasure.
Pros:
- 24 Horsepower Briggs and Stratton Engine
- Weight distribution is balanced and makes for great maneuverability
- Responds smoothly to the driver’s controls
- Wide 54” cutting deck houses 3 individual gator mulching blades
- Made for pain-free use with automated features like a electronic deck lift
- Super comfortable seating
- 8 gallon fuel tank will feed the engine for many acres of land
Cons:
- Monstrous size compared to tractors and pushers
- Expensive price tag
- Regular maintenance is required
Performance:
The ZTR2454BS performs exactly as a high-end model like itself should. It eats through grass quickly with top speeds of up to 8 MPH and a wide cutting deck. The engine provides power smoothly and responds precisely to the control levers meaning acceleration, deceleration, and turning all feel natural. In fact, during our tests we felt that the mower was nearly an extension of ourselves with a scaringly quick response. It performed well up hills thanks to good traction on the wheels and enough power from the engine. The frame is definitely built to last and felt structurally sound even when towing moderately heavy objects. The seating was comfortable and put the driver high above the grass which gave a wider range of view than most other mowers. It included many automatic features such as an electrically engaged blade and continuously variable speeds with its hydrostatic engine. Maneuverability was some of the best we’ve seen with a very low center of gravity and proper weight distribution. Everything about this mower was fantastic and that is what everyone should expect to see from a model with such a steep price.
Final Thoughts:
Although the ZTR2454BS is one of Swisher’s most expensive models, its high price is reflected in the superior performance of the mower. It cuts grass like a motorized beast should, and leaves the lawn nearly perfectly manicured. The handling was on par with even the best industrial mowers and this allowed for nearly perfect edging. With many premium accessory features built-in, we feel that this mower is great for individuals looking to buy a high-end, private zero turn mower. It is best suited for lawns from 1-6 acres in size.
