Summary
Coming from Troy-Bilt, a company known for its aggressively low pricing, the 17ADCACT066 receives a high score for being one of the best values for the money today. It is an entry-level zero turn mower designed for beginners and advanced users alike on properties that are small to moderately sized. We recommend it for use on lawns around 1-4 acres, but it will have no problem tackling even more land. It features a rather powerful engine for its size, and its 46” mowing deck with eat through all types of grass, twigs, and weeds without issue. The lap bar is highly adjustable and will accommodate to the rider’s specific size to make riding a comfort rather than a pain. All things considered, the Mustang is a great purchase for those looking to upgrade from a traditional pusher or smaller sized rider.
Pros:
- Extremely capable 24 Horsepower V-twin Overhead valve Engine
- Troy-Bilt’s Dual Hydro Gear EZT Hydrostatic Transmission allows you to adjust speed on the go
- Affordable for any kind of budget
- Mows much faster than any tractor or pushing mower
- Smaller size than most zero turn mowers
- Turning responds well to drivers dictation
Cons:
- Weak frame does not let you pull objects and it does not include a trailer hitch
- Seat is high backed and hard to turn around in
- The frame is not made of steel and will be damaged under stress
Performance:
The 17ADCACT066 Mustang is a highly coveted zero turn mower by Troy-Bilt. Its combination of affordability and high-performance capability make this one of the most sought after model today. Even at its low price, the Mustang performed better than our expectations with quick smooth response to turns and a very quick rotation speed. We believe this is due to the powerful Briggs and Stratton engine which provided ample power at a consistent, manageable rate. Both acceleration and deceleration happened at the slightest movement of the lever and we felt that its response was on par with some of the best mowers on the market. Even though its functionality is limited to mowing, mulching, and bagging grass, it is great at performing its duties quickly and consistently. With a max speed of 7 MPH and a dual-bladed 46” cutting deck, this machine ate through grass at a high rate much faster than any tractor or pushing mower. The hydrostatic transmission has been refined through the several generations that came before this one, and this shows through the overall performance of the mower. We believe this zero turn mower is one of the best values on the market today.
Final Thoughts:
The Mustangs combination of low-pricing and fast mowing make this one of the highest demanded models, and it will be hard to find one in stock. Outside of these issues, it is one of the best zero turn mowers in the low price bracket and will satisfy anyone looking to be introduced to this category of mowers.
